Chilean Miners Alive , on the Surface, and home with their Loved Ones.
.
In an extraordinary bit of good news this past week, all of the 33 trapped Chilean miners were rescued alive and in good condition after over 2 months underground. More and more is being learned about their ordeal, as well as of the international effort that was invited and coordinated by the Chilean government to reach them and free them. Much of the the technology and know how came from and was donated by engineers and companies from Ohio and Pennsylvania with vast experience in mining and drilling. The rescue pod was designed by NASA. Other psychological and social services help was provided to the miners and their families as well. And soon, they will themselves start to tell their story. One hopes that they'll hold up as well under all the media attention as well as they did underground.
Have you been following the story ? What have you heard ? What have you learned ? What questions do you have ? As you learn about the DC Close Up project and browse the list of American Themes that you might explore- which of those themes do you see being celebrated in this successful rescue of 33 Chilean Miners- an event that rightly captured the world's attention.
And there's another question. With all that's going on in the world, why are we so interested in this particular story ?
